Dr. Nikhil Raj is the Director of TARINA, Chair of the TARINA Management Committee, and Ex-Officio Member/Secretary of the TARINA Steering Committee. He is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction on the implementation of TARINA for promoting diversity in food systems in India to improve nutrition outcomes. His role is to ensure close collaboration and synergies between partner organizations and cultivate a positive learning environment through the up-and-coming Centre of Excellence (CoE) in New Delhi.
Dr. Raj brings nearly 23 years of multi-sectoral and multi-stakeholder experience in research, consulting and program management across a range of issues, including human development, agriculture, natural resource management, food security, health and nutrition, livelihoods, labor and employment, governance and information and communications technologies for development. In his previous assignments, Dr. Raj has worked with the United Nations World Food Programme, the World Bank, Ernst & Young, Tata Consultancy Services, OneWorld International and the National Labour Institute of India. Before joining the TARINA leadership team, he was the Vice President at Natural Resource Management Consultants in India. Dr. Raj began his career as a Lecturer of Economics for HansRaj College at the University of Delhi. He has also worked on international research programs and consulting assignments in Africa, South and South-East Asia and South Eastern Europe. Dr. Raj was trained in Development Economics at Delhi University and at Jawaharlal Nehru University and holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Patna University.
